Students completing the Manufacturing Program in partnership with Northeast Technical Institute (NTI), Lewiston CareerCenter and Western Maine Community Action (WMCA), celebrated their last day of classes with instructor, Scott Moran and WMCA Employment & Training Specialists, Cher Tyra and Monica Millhime. The 11-week Manufacturing Technician program provides students with core competencies in bench-work, precision measurement, blue print reading, industrial safety, technical math, computer applications, lean manufacturing, manufacturing concepts and workplace skills/communication and leadership development. Students then have the opportunity to select an area of concentration in the manufacturing industry upon successful completion of the classroom portion of their program. The program is part of the manufacturing career pathway which prepares students for a variety of entry level positions in the manufacturing industry. Students meeting the eligibility guidelines were supported by funds provided by the Competitive Skills Scholarship Program and the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act. “Being able to hire people with sound, basic skills is important, even in a tight job market. This training provides those skills and offers employers candidates ready to go,” shares Patti Saarinen, WMCA Project Coordinator.
The next manufacturing class is scheduled to begin Monday, October 22. An orientation session is scheduled for Monday, October 1 at the Lewiston CarerrCenter from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration deadline is Friday, September 21. The training is valued at over $4,500 with NO cost for eligible participants. Contact the Lewiston CareerCenter at 753.9001 or 800.741.2991 to register.
