Now Offering Home Energy Audits - Saving Energy - Saving Cash

Western Maine Community Action (WMCA) is a social service agency that has been providing services for over 40 years to people living in the western mountain region of Maine.  WMCA is funded with private, local, state and federal money.

The majority of our services are designed to assist low to moderate income people in Franklin, Androscoggin and Oxford counties.  We offer numerous programs and services that include nutrition, health, home ownership, heating and energy assistance, education, training, employment and volunteerism.  Some of our services are available regardless of income.

We are dedicated to the belief that people can help themselves if the appropriate resources, education, and support exists. It is our mission to advocate for, strengthen, and coordinate all resources -- private, local, state, and federal -- that will assist us in promoting the self-sufficiency and independence of people.

In fulfilling our mission, we will focus on these major objectives:

  1. To act as a representative of, and to advocate with and for people, on issues that affect them.

  2. To provide quality services to meet identified human needs in the most cost effective way possible.

  3. To promote sensitivity and to foster cooperation within programs, organizations, and communities in meeting the needs of people.

  4. To mobilize and work with all resources in developing innovative solutions to community problems.

Western Maine Community Action’s mission is therefore a catalytic one of helping people help themselves, and focusing the resources and awareness of the community on the desire, to eliminate the barriers to independence and self-sufficiency.

We continue to assist people in eliminating barriers to self-sufficiency and in improving their quality of life. A belief in basic human dignity and the exercise of free choice motivates the agency to approach this goal in two ways: by providing services to alleviate the conditions of economic uncertainty and by advocating for changes to eliminate the causes of poverty.
